Please check your eligibility to join this short course and time-tabling details with the Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The short course will only be delivered subject to a minimum number of applications being received.

This short course award aims to provide a basic understanding and professional development in the field of land management. It will provide you with the necessary basic knowledge of sustainability principles, economics, spatial planning, and law in order to understand and better manage issues and challenges of land management. The programme is made up of four lecture-based study units. By the end of the training programme, you will be able to better understand the constraints and issues related to land as a resource and apply the best approaches to managing it. In addition, this programme is being offered at MQF level 4 with a total of 16 ECTS credits being offered on a part-time (day) basis over a period of 2 semesters.

This programme of study is governed by the Regulations for Micro-credentials, 2024.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the impact of economic issues on the economy as a whole as well as how this has an effect on issues which are more micro in nature such as land use.
  • Evaluate the macro-economic environment and the role of governments and related economic agencies to deal with issues related to the use of land.
  • Apply legal obligations and titles to the understanding of land use and land management.
  • Demonstrate how the principles of sustainability can be applied in various fields.
  • Discuss spatial planning policies in the light of contemporary issues related to land management.
  • Interpret policy-documents that are relevant to the Maltese context and thus to land management in Malta.
